My name is Hong Tran. I was born and raised in Trang Bang district, Tay Ninh province. I graduated from Medical University in Saigon Vietnam in 1991 and I was an oncologist until 2017. I have been living in the US since 2017, and I am proud to have achieved American citizenship. I have since obtained certification in 2020 as a Phlebotomist at Rowan University in NJ. Before I came to the US, my dream was to become a famous person using hightech biomedical devices in my medical profession. But when I got to America my dream faded away. I was scared and tired on my very first day in this new country. What a journey it was! I had opened a new page in my life by deciding to come to the US. Everyone who has heard my story has said \"What a brave move!\" It was a big but fearful adventure for me to immigrate to the US with extremely poor English. I thought what a brave old lady I was but I had hope. I had difficulty learning a new language. And it still is. English is a second language and I found it wasn't easy for someone over 50 years old to pursue and practice it as one's second language.

Currently I have had a lot of free time. I will use these times to read,to write about my story in English. My goal here is improving my ability to thoroughly understand this new language -to speak, write and read as much like a native American as I can.

Right now, I have an incredibly happy life with the success of my two sons here in America. My first son graduated as a biomedical sciences device engineer from the University of California in Irvine in 2021 and he is presently enrolled in the master's program of Mechanical Engineering at John Hopkins in Maryland. Now, he works at CI Beall Applied Innovation at the COVE in Irvine City, California. My second son is attending the Clinical Laboratory Science program at Rutger University NJ and will graduate in June 2022.

My dream now is to spend the rest of my life helping all Vietnamese people based on my long medical experience and knowledge I have obtained as a practicing physician in Vietnam. I think it will come true with continued faith and hope.
